⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Blue Onion never misses. Started with the fresh hummus topped with roasted garlic and goat cheese — an elevated take on a classic that immediately sets the tone for what this kitchen is doing. Bold, creamy, and layered with flavor. The fajita salad with balsamic dressing was a standout. The fajita meat was incredibly tender and the greens were crisp and fresh — the kind of salad that actually satisfies. That balsamic brought everything together perfectly. Then came the “Lots of Meat Calzone” — and wow is right. This thing delivered on every level. Generous, hearty, and packed with flavor. And a special shoutout to our server Nick — genuinely one of the best dining experiences from a service standpoint. Attentive, personable, and the kind of hospitality that makes you want to come back just for that alone. Blue Onion continues to impress with creative, well-executed dishes in a welcoming setting. Whether you’re stopping in for something light or going all in, this place has you covered. Highly recommend — and I’ll definitely be back.

I visited The Blue Onion on 10th and Dove in McAllen and had a really great experience. The restaurant was pretty empty when we arrived, which actually worked out perfectly because we received very prompt and attentive service. I ordered the gyro with black beans, salad, and marinated cucumbers on the side, and everything was extremely fresh and delicious. You can really tell they focus on quality ingredients. One thing that stood out to me is that they don’t use microwaves—nothing is reheated, everything is made fresh. That’s something you don’t come across often anymore, especially at such reasonable prices. Overall, it was a great experience, and I’d definitely recommend The Blue Onion if you’re looking for fresh, flavorful food with quick service.

Great food! Excellent service. We will be back again soon. I had the gyro and wife had the grilled vegetables salad. She had peach tea and loved it. I had the homemade lemonade. The sauces are house made! Loved it all!

The food is really good, I didn’t want to do a review until I had tried a couple of their options. Their Po boys and calzone’s are incredible and they do have vegetarian options. Now what really stood out for me was their salads I had the grilled veggie salad paired with the balsamic vinaigrette dressing it was amazing! And the portions well proportioned. Keeps me going back!

I will say that the food here is excellent, the gyro was absolutely delicious, the bread was soft and the meat juicy, the cucumber salad made this gyro taste great. The shrimp and garlic pizza was also delicious. The restaurant itself isn't very appealing for my tastes. Our server Jose was incredible, he was fun and polite, it is because of him I'm giving this place 5 ⭐.
